The total cost of implementation and ownership of a system over its useful life. It includes the cost of development, acquisition, operation, maintenance, support, and, where applicable, disposal. (Mooz, Forsberg, Cotterman 2003, p 209)

For example, is this an emerging concept for which there is still much research to be done? Or have two different definitions emerged as the result of two different disciplines interacting with systems engineering?
